The project „I’m preparing myself to be a grown-up” is a project intended to the development of skills necessary for an independent life, for education and knowledge, for socialization, entertainment and for the development of creative expression abilities of the children included in the St. Dimitrie Day Centre program. The program „I’m preparing myself to be a grown-up” has as purpose the formation for life of the children coming from disadvantaged families, having parents with financial and social difficulties, parents who do not involve or who involve too little in their children’s upbringing and education.
The project’s objectives:
1. The development of skills and knowledge necessary for an independent life for 30 children who attend the St. Dimitrie social centre for children during a period of one year.
2. The increase of the social behaviour and of the community integration level for 30 children who attend the children’s social centre.
3. The development of socialization skills, initiative, the development of knowledge concerning the natural environment by organizing out-of-school and socialization activities for 30 children who attend the centre.
4. The development of the artistic sense and of plastic expression through the children’s participation in the creativity workshop within the children’s social centre.
The project responds to the identified problems though:
- organizing classes for and independent lifestyle centered on the acquisition of self-management skills, the usage of a healthy nutrition and the embracement of a healthy lifestyle for all the children included in the day centre
- organizing classes of economic and civic education, knowledge about the community and its resources, visiting different institutions, etc.
- organizing recreational activities, thematic and socialization trips wherethrought the children will improve their knowledge about nature, about environment, will aquire group integration skills, etc. for all the children included in the day centre
- the children’s participation in the creativity workshop within the Children’s Social Centre, thus developing their capacity of plastic expression, learning how to use the colour, the paper and the clay in order to express feelings and impressions.
The educational, recreational and socialization activities are being organized in the form of classes, depending on the children’s age, on their degree of understanding, on the educator’s and psychologist’s initial assessment. The classes have the following subjects:
- The development of general knowledge
- Activities for the develpment of skills for an independent lifestyle
- Activities of community acquaintance
- Musical education
- English
- Activities for the development of the artistic sense
- Recreational and socialization activities
